Gravity keeps the water from entering the container.

The holes for the vent are cut under the top half of the vent. Water would have to enter the holes at the bottom of the vent and then move vertically three inches and then horizontally to get inside the container.

We recommend at least two vents to have a cross flow of ventilation. Four would give an even better cross flow of air. But you could have Vents at every divet on the container for maximum air circulation.
